Stirrup Cup 2 - 0 Sargents
So we get to play on the plastic turf over at Rothwell and the game gets ruined by lashings of sleet and a hurricane. We had a go at the division winners but an own goal by Tel and a dodgy penalty did for us. Looks like it's third or fourth place for us, we'll know soon enough. Don't know how the divisions will be organised for next season so stop asking me, i'm not Mystic Meg, though i do look as haggard as the old crone. Still got a couple of friendlies coming up and i'll write match reports if a) we win, b) i can be bothered, and, most importantly, c) i net a hat-trick.
Team - Chris, James, Terry, Carl T, Dunc (Craig S), Jon G, Gareth (Matt U), Micky, Craig C (Carl S), Tom, John SS
MotM - Jambo (welcome back squire)
Next week - at home to Rushden Windmill if the pitch isn't a swamp

Sargents 2 - 0 Fox Inn
A game that had end of season written all over it. A lethargic first half was brought to life on 43 minutes when Dunc struck with a looping shot over the keeper. "YESSSSS!!!", cried the pint-sized one. Steve then lobbed the keeper in similar fashion. He didn't shout "YESSSSS!!!". Or anything for that matter, just strolled off with an Henryesque gallic shrug. That's all that happened. Yep, it was a thriller. Anyone fancy a pint?
Team - Chris, Micky, Carl, Terry, Jon G, John SS (Craig S), Gareth, Steve, Dunc, Andy (Craig C), Tom (Scott)
Goals - Dunc & Steve
MotM - the "YESSSSS!!!" man
Next week - stay in bed

Colworth 3 - Sargents 0
Despite a lot of effort on a warm day things just never really got going for us. Missing top scorer Leigh didn't help but we still created a few half chances without ever giving their keeper many problems. Level at the break but soon after a harsh handball given against Scuba (who's had a tough couple of weeks) led to the home side scoring from the spot and despite a spell of pressure by us it was 2-0 when their sub forward scored with his first touch. A third followed but the scoreline flattered them a bit.
Team - Chris, Carl (Scott), Bjorn, Terry, Jon G, John SS, Steve, Gareth, Micky, Tom, Matt U
MotM - not given
Next week - home to Fox Inn

Sargents 1 - Stirrup Cup 1
A foggy old day to start with but it soon brightened up as did the game when Steve got his handbag out swiftly followed by one of their chaps and the ref decided to wave his red card at both. We went behind to a quality free kick on 40 mins but it was a real sickener as we'd more than held our own up til then. And even though it took a long time we finally got the equaliser in the 93rd minute with Leigh scrambling the ball home from a bit of ping pong in their area. It was the least we deserved and showed if we can keep our heads and cut out the arguing (which we did) then we're a reasonable team. Cheers for all today's efforts from your stand-in manager.
Team - Chris, Micky, Carl T, Jon G, Terry, John SS (Andy), Gareth, Steve, Dunc (Carl S), Leigh, Tom
Goal - Late, late Leigh
MotM - Tomaldinho
Next Week - away to Colworth (at Colworth House where they do all weird experiments and stuff, eww)
Other Fixtures - home to Fox Inn on 8th April and finishing with Stirrup Cup away on 29th April

Fox Inn 0 - Sargents 2
Despite being in the bottom two Fox put up a battling performance and never let us rest, hassling us so we couldn't play our usual Barcelonaesque football, ho ho. A very open game saw us take the lead when diminutive shuffler and Saturday night beerhead Tom ploughed through the centre of their defence and netted. Well done Tom, all your own work, have a gold star. We needed a second to give us some breathing space and we got it through long-legged, Czech wedded, level headed Terry when he knocked one in with his bonce at the second attempt. Deep joy all round on a hot day.
Team - Rich, Carl, Bjorn (Jon G), Micky B, Terry, Craig (Matt U), Steve, Gareth, John SS, Leigh (Dunc), Tom
Goals - Tom, Terry
MotM - Michael Schmeichel

Grammarians 2 - Sargents 5
Back to winning ways on a soggy, windy morning up at the mad mile. Leigh Lambert & Butler puts us ahead with a cool finish before a jammy free kick and penalty put the Gramms up at the break. Our old chum Own Goal popped up to equalise before L&B and Thomas Chamberino both netted from similar one-on-one situations. Lord Shankmaster Gareth then rounded things off with a 25 yarder that looped, swirled and dipped over the by now overworked netminder.
Team - Chris, Carl, Bjorn, Micky B, Jon G, Matt U (Craig), Gareth, Steve, Paul (Dunc), Leigh, Tom (Andy)
Goals - Leigh 2, Tom, Gareth, o.g.
MotM - shared by Steve & Gareth, the show-offs
Next game - watch this space
