Sargents 1 - Woodford Stars 3

This is no fun having to write about another reverse. Tom put us ahead with a lovely strike, beating the keeper with a carefully placed shot into the corner. And then it went wrong. Message ends.

Team - Chris, Micky B, Carl (Craig), Jon G (John SS), Terry, Matt U (Dunc), Steve, Gareth, John Ard, Leigh, Tom

MotM - Steve

Next week - home to Fox Inn

Ventura Vikings 4 - Sargents 2

A reverse of last week as we throw away a two goal lead. Shouty Paul got us going with a goal on twenty minutes followed five minutes later by tan specialist Tom doubling the tally. Just before the break Vikings got a lifeline when Jon G lobbed Chris with a spectacular/disasterous effort and three more goals followed in the second half to leave us rueing the chances that we missed.

Team - Chris, Micky B, Bjorn, Jon G (John Ar), Matt N (Carl), Matt U, Gareth, Steve, Paul, Leigh, Tom (Dunc)

Goals - Paul, Tom

MotM - don't think we named one

Next week - home to Woodford Stars

Sargents 4 - Grammarians 2

Sargents start the year with a win after slipping up early on.  The chilly morning started with us 2-0 down before we knew it but could count ourselves unlucky because Leigh had had a goal disallowed for offside and Tom had one chalked off because the ref didn't see him slot into the empty net after their keeper had dropped the ball at Tom's feet, thinking instead that the chunky pint-sized creator must have fouled the fumble-fingered custodian. Never matter, hot shot Leigh got our first from the spot after being dragged to the floor by their defender and Tom equalised with a bullet header from 3 inches. Half time sub Paul put us ahead with a deliberate (!) cross shot and Matt U sealed the points with a drive near the end that deceived the keeper, who to be fair had played really well, stopping us on several occasions. Onwards and upwards fellas......

Team - Chris, Micky B, Jon G (John SS), Terry, Micky G, Dunc (Paul), Gareth, Steve, Matt U, Leigh (Bjorn), Tom

Goals- Leigh (pen), Tom, Paul, Matt U

MotM - Steve, was it? I forget

Next week - Ventura Vikings (Croyland Park, W'boro)

Sargents 1 - Colworth 3

Ain't had time to do this yet. So it's a league loss at last, getting turned over by a fine Colworth team, Steve's equaliser just before half time unfortunately not proving to be a turning point as two more strikes by the visitors clinching them the three points. We sit in second place at Christmas with all to play for.

Team - Chris, James, Carl, Matt N (Craig), Micky B, Matt U, Steve, Gareth, Dunc (Andy), Leigh, Tom

Goal - Steve

MotM - Gareth

Next game - Gawd knows, ain't heard nowt yet. Merry Christmas

Burton Band Res 2 - Sargents 2

Robin van Butler hits another brace to grab a point in the top of the table clash at Burton. With Burton taking an early lead it required our goal machine to net an equaliser from close range after good work from Jambo. Burton got on top and Chris was on top form with a string of saves to keep us in it. The home side took the lead on 55 and continued to cause problems for our back four while we struggled to get a hold of the ball up top. Again Chris came to our rescue on a couple of occasions but with 4 minutes left Jon G made a surge from centre half, found John SS who crossed for Leigh to grab his 16th of the season. Almost immediately we were down to 10 men as Jon G had to go off injured and we'd already used all our subs but we hung on for the point leaving us top at the halfway point of the season. Nice one, fellas.

Team - Chris, James (Bjorn), Carl, Micky B, Jon G, Craig (John SS), Steve, Gareth, Matt U (John Ar), Tom, Leigh

Goals - Leigh 2

MotM - Chris

Next week - home to Colworth, last fixture this year

Quote of the Day

" I shouldn't really say what I feel, but [referee Graham] Poll was their best midfielder in the goal. You saw him coming off at half-time and at the end. He smiled so much, he obviously enjoyed that performance. "
